Tulip oil painting demo and following your muse

At the last minute I changed my mind about what I wanted to paint for my weekly Wednesday morning Live on Instagram that I do each week. That often happens. I think the single most important factor to help a painting succeed is following your muse.

It’s often something like a color combination, a shape within the composition, or the subject itself that makes me feel inspired. Sometimes I’m not even sure what it is, I can’t put my finger on it, but I just know. I guess that’s simply listening to your intuition.

And I must admit I have an addiction to taking photos. So I keep a library of images all ready to go for when I have free time to paint. So I don’t waste time thinking about what to paint and I can just dive right in. Keeping the process as simple as I can with no reason to procrastinate. Ever.

So if something strikes you in the moment, run with it with all of your heart…it won’t steer you wrong!
